2.) Spandrel Bream Waterproofing:

NERVASTRAL SEAL-PRUF HD, shall be installed with cold-application mastic to the face of beam, carried downward and sealed to underside of spandrel flange. Where the flashing is not subject to tension or weight, spotbonding may be permissible. Request Specification #3532C

3.) Door and Window Flashing:

NERVASTRAL SEAL-PRUF HD, shall be employed on all sills and heads. It shall be installed ½” inward from outside face of wall and extended 6” on each side of opening. In brick veneer construction, the sheeting shall not be allowed to hang free prior to completion of brick work, but it will be nailed to the siding with nails and discs or furring strips. Request Specification #3533-2

4.) Shower Stall Waterproofing:

One ply of NERVASTRAL 300 shall be applied over the concrete surface by embedding it in a coat of NERVA-PLAST” (Trowel) spread at a reate of 40 sq. ft./gallons. Joints shall be sealed with 3” NERVASTRAL Sealant tape by opening the joint, cleaning thoroughly and installing tape, paper side up. Roll in tape, strip paper, close joint and roll again. Center 2”
NERVASTRAL Sealant tape over edge of joint and roll again. The membrane shall be carried up at least 4” vertically, or preferably performed corners and angles shall be used. The entire horizontal area shall be rolled with a 50 to 100 lb. Roller and the corner and vertical sections with a rubber roller to insure a solid anchorage. After mastic is fully set, apply cement grout, at least 1” thick See Specification #4640B and Bulletins #’s 184D and 199B.

B. MEMBRANE WATERPROOFING

APPLICATION

1.) Perimeter Flashing:

NERVASTRAL 600, as manufactured by Rubber & Plastic Compound Co., Inc., Long Island City, New York, shall be used for flashing around perimeter wall, parapets and curbs. The flashing shall extend at least 6” over the horizontal roof area, a felt strip will overlap the horizontal edge of NERVASTRAL 600 AND EXTEND 6” ON EACH SIDE OF THE SEAM. The vertical portion of NERVASTRAL 600 shall be tucked into a wall joint or better into a reglet. See Bulletin #139.

2.) Roof Edge Flashing:
More Information:

NERVASTRAL 600, as manufactured by Rubber & Plastics Compound Co., Inc. Long Island City, New York, shall be used for flashing at the rood edge. The flashing shall extend over the edge and vertically down the wall under the fascia. The flashing shall extend at least 6” over the horizontal roof area and shall be stripped in with a felt strip overlapping the horizontal roof area and shall be stripped in with a felt strip overlapping the horizontal edge extending 6” on each side of the seam. See Bulletin #139

INSTALLATION

NERVASTRAL 600 is employed for exposed flashing in place of metal flashing which would require painstaking fabrication and soldering. It can be fitted in the form of a flanged sleeve around vents and columns. Mechanical fastening is necessary around sharp corners on curbs and recesses. NERVA-PLAST Cold Setting Cement or hot mop asphalt (melting point 150-170 degrees F) may be used. See
Bulletin #139.

JOINTS

Install NERVASTRAL 600 in lengths not longer than 15’. Joints between section of NERVASTRAL 600 are to be made with side laps of 6” and end laps
Of 10”. NERVA-KOTE PV30 shall be used for all joints where NERVASTRAL 600 is to be adhered to itself and both faces of the joint shall be coated. Allow enough time for solvent to evaporate and coating to develop an aggressive tack without transferring to the
Finger when touched lightly. At the proper time, the joint is to be closed and thoroughly rolled.

ADHESIVES

Rubber & Plastics Compound Co., Inc. has adhesive products which are recommended for the application of NERVASTRAL 600.

For best results, NERVA-KOTE PV30 must be used for sealing lapped joints or when a firm, tight bond is required to secure the sheeting to the structure. To simply adhere NERVASTRAL 600 to the top flashing felt of the roof, or on flat horizontal areas. NERVA-PLAST (trowel) shall be used. NERVA-PLAST is to be kept back from each side of the lapped joints at least 2” NERVASTRAL 600 can also be adhered to flat horizontal surfaces with hot bitumen as the type known as “Dead Level Asphalt”, having a melting point of 150-170 degrees F. Initial maximum temperature of the bitumen must be kept under 300 degrees.
